Types Of Dental Clinics And Services Offered

Oscar Allen

If you struggle with getting an appointment to see your regular dentist, you could just see another dentist in another dental clinic. You should not have any difficulty finding a dental clinic either. There are plenty of dental clinics, and there are a few specialty dental clinic types, too. The following highlights the types of clinics you could visit while you wait for an opening in your regular dentist's office.

Walk-in Clinics

You do not have to be a regular patient to go to a walk-in dental clinic. Some walk-in clinics may take certain insurances, while others offer you the ability to pay for services on a sliding scale or with their discount card. Walk-in dental clinics frequently operate as "urgent care" clinics for people who need to see a dentist sooner rather than later. Cleanings, fillings, gum care, and injury and emergency services are common.

General Practices with Multiple Dentists

A general practice that has six or more dentists working for it is one that can certainly squeeze you in when you really need someone to check a tooth. Some of these really large practices are part of a national or regional chain of dentistry and dentists.

You can always tell these clinics by the long list of names associated with the practice. They are also a mix of very new dentists who are working their first job combined with much more experienced dentists. When you call to make an appointment, you can take your pick, or take whoever is next and immediately available to see you. Services offered extend from an initial screening to major restorative services (e.g., crowns and bridges).

National "Branded" Dentist Clinics

These are dental clinics that sport a recognized and recognizable brand name. They take walk-in patients every day, often without appointments and little warning. They provide all of the basic services plus emergency dental services. Some also provide basic orthodontic care.

Orthodontics and Advanced Dental Services

If you think that your tooth problem is particularly serious (e.g., you have an abscess that needs draining or a tooth that needs extraction), then you may want to see a dentist in a clinic that provides advanced dental services, oral and dental surgery, and/or orthodontics. The more serious the condition, the more likely you would need to be seen by a dentist of this caliber anyway. When you cannot see your own dentist in less than a month, see one of these dentists instead.

About Me
A New Smile Was the Best Investment of My Life

I grew up in a home with parents who did not insist on good dental hygiene. By the time I was old enough to know better, some damage had already been done. I had many cavities, crooked teeth, and some discoloration on my teeth. I knew it would not be easy to take my smile from where it was to where it is today, but I was determined to finally have nice teeth. I visited a dentist who was very nice and never judged me. We made a dental plan together. Spreading the procedures out over time made it much easier to afford them. I now have almost perfect teeth after all that hard work! I created this blog to help others who have dental problems that stem from bad childhood habits know there is hope! It is never too late to start seeing the dentist!
