6 Warning Signs That You May Need Gum Disease Treatment

Oscar Allen

Gum disease is a frustrating condition that nobody wants. It most often happens when someone is not taking proper care of their teeth, but that is not always the case. Genetics play a role in whether one develops gum disease, and smoking and certain health conditions may make one vulnerable. If you find yourself with the following warning signs, you may have gum disease.

Warning Sign #1: Your Gums Start Bleeding Easily

People with healthy gums should not experience bleeding during flossing and eating, but those with gum disease may find that their gums bleed easily during normal daily activities.

Warning Sign #2: Partial Dentures Don't Fit as Well Any More

If you find that your partial dentures just don't fit in the mouth the way they used to do, that may be a result of shifts that occur with gum disease. If this happens, you need to see your dentist immediately.

Warning Sign #3: You Get a Consistent Bad Taste in Your Mouth

If you have an unexplained bad taste in your mouth that doesn't go away, you may have gum disease. Everyone may experience a bad taste from time to time, but it can spell trouble when it doesn't go away.

Warning Sign #4: Your Gums Are Red and Swollen

Red and swollen gums are one of the strongest early signs of gum disease. You may be tempted to ignore it since this may not be much of a disruption in your life, but early identification of symptoms is important so that the symptoms and disease can be reversed.

Warning Sign #5: Your Gums Start to Recede from Your Teeth

Gums may start to recede from the teeth as gum disease progresses, and that can create a pocket. This can look unsightly, and it can be a very bad sign of what is going on with your gum health.

Warning Sign #6: You Find That Your Permanent Teeth Are Separating

In the later stages of gum disease, the supporting fibers in the gums may be destroyed, and even some of the bone may be destroyed as well. Teeth may separate and even become loose.

If you suspect you may have gum disease, make an appointment for a dental exam, and speak to your dentist about your concerns. A dentist like those at Periodontal Specialists can help provide treatment and recommend actions you can take to kick gum disease (and its pesky symptoms) to the curb.

About Me
A New Smile Was the Best Investment of My Life

I grew up in a home with parents who did not insist on good dental hygiene. By the time I was old enough to know better, some damage had already been done. I had many cavities, crooked teeth, and some discoloration on my teeth. I knew it would not be easy to take my smile from where it was to where it is today, but I was determined to finally have nice teeth. I visited a dentist who was very nice and never judged me. We made a dental plan together. Spreading the procedures out over time made it much easier to afford them. I now have almost perfect teeth after all that hard work! I created this blog to help others who have dental problems that stem from bad childhood habits know there is hope! It is never too late to start seeing the dentist!
