3 Tips For Getting The Most Out Of Your Cosmetic Dentistry Procedure

Oscar Allen

If you are thinking about going through with any cosmetic dentistry procedures, here are three tips that will help you get the most out of the experience.

#1 Ask To See Before & After Pictures

Before agreeing to any cosmetic dentistry procedures, it is important that you have a realistic idea of what type of results that you are going to get if you go through with the procedure. Ask your dentist to show you before and after pictures of similar work that they have done. This will allow you to see how other patients looked before and find examples of patients who were in similar "before" conditions that mirror your own and see how much of a different the cosmetic dentistry actually made to their teeth. This is a great way to determine if the cosmetic procedure that your dentist suggested will give you the type of results that you are looking for.

#2 Bring Pictures Of What You Want

The second thing that you should do is bring pictures to your dentist that show what you want the outcome of your surgery to look like. This will allow your dentist to get an idea of what you are looking for. It will also allow you to communicate your expectations with your dentist and determine if the work that your dentist is planning on doing is going to meet the expectations and outcome that you are looking for. Pictures are a great way to facilitate a discussion with your dentist about what the outcome of the cosmetic dentistry procedures they have planned for your will be.

#3 Always Ask For A Wax-Up

Finally, when you are going in for major cosmetic dentistry procedures that are designed to change the way that your mouth looks, it is not enough to just talk to your dentist about the results that you want. You need to ask for a full wax-up, which is where the dentist uses impression of your teeth and then uses that to show what your teeth will look like when they are done with the procedures. This will allow you to see a real three dimensional model of what the outcome of your procedure should leave your teeth with.

When you want to have cosmetic dentistry done, it is vitally important that you and your dentist are on the same page. Use before and after pictures, pictures that you bring in, and your wax-up to discuss with your doctor what you are looking for and what they can actually do for you. Open communication will help prepare you for the results of their cosmetic dentistry procedure and will help you set realistic expectations of what your mouth and smile will look like.

About Me
A New Smile Was the Best Investment of My Life

I grew up in a home with parents who did not insist on good dental hygiene. By the time I was old enough to know better, some damage had already been done. I had many cavities, crooked teeth, and some discoloration on my teeth. I knew it would not be easy to take my smile from where it was to where it is today, but I was determined to finally have nice teeth. I visited a dentist who was very nice and never judged me. We made a dental plan together. Spreading the procedures out over time made it much easier to afford them. I now have almost perfect teeth after all that hard work! I created this blog to help others who have dental problems that stem from bad childhood habits know there is hope! It is never too late to start seeing the dentist!
