Three Home Tricks For Better Breath

Oscar Allen

Once the dentist says you suffer from halitosis, all can seem hopeless. Having bad breath often makes people want to hide away and not engage in any social activity in fear of embarrassment. You need to know, however, that halitosis is common and is can happen for various reasons. There are several things that you can try from home that will give you fresher and cleaner smelling breath. Not only will these methods help improve your breath, they will also improve the overall health of your mouth.

Drink Cinnamon Tea

Cinnamon is one of the best spices you can use for your dental health. This spice has natural antiseptic properties so while it is removing harmful bacteria from your mouth that causes halitosis, it is also guarding your teeth against cavities.

To use cinnamon to freshen your breath, you will need:

  • Three teaspoons of cinnamon

  • Eight ounces of boiling water

Mix the cinnamon in with the boiling water to make a tea and then sip on it when it has cooled down enough to touch. If you do not like the taste of this tea, you don't have to swallow it. You can simply swish it around in your mouth like you would your mouthwash.

Drink Apple Cider Vinegar

It sounds disgusting, but this method is actually very effective when trying to rid your mouth of the bacteria that causes halitosis. Apple cider vinegar is full of anti-bacteria properties and it is a natural antiseptic. This method is very simple to use. You just mix two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in eight ounces of cold water and drink it. After you drink the solution, be sure to brush your teeth with your regular toothpaste. If apple cider vinegar stays on your teeth for too long, it could cause damage to the enamel.

Gargle With Lemon Water

Gargling with lemon water is possibly the quickest way to get your breath smelling clean and fresh. Lemons are high in acid so while it kills the bacteria in your mouth that is causing the bad breath, it will also protect your mouth from bad breath after eating meals.

Before you eat, mix two tablespoons of lemon juice in with eight ounces of cold water and gargle it in your mouth for sixty seconds. Be sure to brush your teeth after your meal so that the lemon juice does not stay on your teeth for too long. Just like the apple cider vinegar, lemons are high in acid and you don't want to damage your teeth. Gargling with lemon water is also good to do before bed because it will keep your mouth hydrated, making your mouth less prone to grow the bacteria that causes halitosis.

Having halitosis isn't the end of the world, especially when there are plenty of easy remedies that you can use. Using one of the simple methods listed above will leave you with a cleaner and fresher mouth. Contact a dentist that specializes in cosmetic dentistry for help with your teeth and breath.

About Me
A New Smile Was the Best Investment of My Life

I grew up in a home with parents who did not insist on good dental hygiene. By the time I was old enough to know better, some damage had already been done. I had many cavities, crooked teeth, and some discoloration on my teeth. I knew it would not be easy to take my smile from where it was to where it is today, but I was determined to finally have nice teeth. I visited a dentist who was very nice and never judged me. We made a dental plan together. Spreading the procedures out over time made it much easier to afford them. I now have almost perfect teeth after all that hard work! I created this blog to help others who have dental problems that stem from bad childhood habits know there is hope! It is never too late to start seeing the dentist!
